How to Create a Movie Theater in Your Small Home

Let’s be honest, when we have a small home, we often have to make sacrifices. Maybe we can’t have that home gym or that dedicated home office space. Maybe we can’t have everything we want, but that didn’t stop me from creating a movie theater in my small home.

Blackout curtains, fluffy pillows and popcorn all help, but the key to creating a movie theater in your small home or small apartment is a good projector. A big TV is nice, but a projector truly makes the space feel as if it’s a small movie theater in your home.

Alas, finding a projector that works in a small space and has a quality picture and high quality sound is almost impossible. Most projectors require you to be a good distance away from the wall, which isn’t always logistically possible in a small home.

When you have a small home, wall space is at a premium too. I personally didn’t want to mount a projector on the ceiling and I also didn’t want to always have a projector sitting out in my space either. I need options!

In fact, I’ve tried out several projectors and sent them all back because the picture quality was so low that I had to squint to see the movie.

With all these requirements, finding the perfect projector wasn’t easy. Enter the BenQ GV30. This projector is the best I’ve used. The picture is crisp, the sound is clear and it’s portable. It’s wireless too, so I can take it into the bedroom if I want a movie night in bed or set it up in the backyard if I want to entertain friends on a warm summer night. The possibilities are endless.

The BenQ GV30 also has a rotating angle projection, so I can project it anywhere– even on the ceiling! That feature really blew my mind.

And to top it off, the BenQ GV30 is a beautiful design. It fits in perfectly with my home and packs away easily.

BenQ was nice enough to also send me the BenQ GV11 projector to try out. Overall, the GV11 and GV30 are very similar, but the GV11 fits those who might have budget concerns. The GV11 is also smaller, so it would be a good option for someone who wants to travel with it. The retail price of the GV11 model is lower, and I did notice that the picture quality was slightly diminished, but the features of rotating-angle projection (135” rotation), great speakers and all the latest streaming Apps can still be seen on both.

I’m so happy to finally have a high quality projector and be able to host movie nights in my small home.
