George’s Office: Before and After

I’m both relieved and excited to be able to finally show you all the photos of my husband, George’s office. It’s been three years in the making. Although it’s a rather simple space, it’s taken a while to get right.

A Small Home: Before Pictures: Office Right Side

Let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we? The above and two following pictures are what George’s office looked like when we bought the house. It was originally a screened porch that had been closed in long ago and made into a dining room. We don’t need a full dining room, but we do need an office because we both work from home. Since this room gets the best light in the house, we thought it’d be perfect for George because he’s a full-time artist.

The room had a linoleum floor that had been damaged by water from a leaky door, so the door was one of the first things to be replaced. And just like the rest of the house, we ended up tearing out the drywall on the walls and ceiling, replacing the electrical to make it safer and then closing everything back up with new drywall. After that, we also replaced the floor.

When we tore the drywall out on the wall pictured above, we realized that the old wood siding was still in ok shape, so we decided to leave it, patch it up where it needed it and paint it black.

George needs a lot of room to spread out and do his work, so we built a desk that spans two walls. He also isn’t a minimalist and that’s totally ok! So we built him some shelves out of barnwood to display his treasured toys and memorabilia. We also thrifted some filing cabinets for art and business paperwork. And lastly we built a dog bed out of an old locker, so Bambi could spend time in her dad’s office too. Ha!

I’m so glad that we were able to repurpose so many old items to make a functional art studio and office for the dude I love.

Have you repurposed or upcycled anything lately? I’d love to hear about it!

I want to renovate a space in our to convert into a work space. In this time, a very good looking work space can help me be motivated into being productive.
