5 Ways to Sustainably Decorate for Fall

Do you have the urge to go pumpkin balls to the wall? I get it! I do too, but I also want to celebrate and decorate sustainably. Here’s a few tips on how sustainably decorate for fall. (FYI: Pic from last year, I’m trying to wait just a liiiiittle bit longer to decorate.)

🎃  Use what decor you already have. There’s no need to grab anything from the Target Dollar spot. If you don’t like the color of your old decor, paint it! If you don’t like the “look” think about ways you can upcycle it into something new.

🎃 Get creative! Use leaves and sticks from your yard for decor. Last year, I made a witch’s broom from sticks I collected in the yard. Leaves can be pressed between warm wax paper and preserved for a garland.

🎃 Purchase compostable or edible items like pumpkins and mums. (Bonus points if it comes from a local farmer). Be sure actually eat or compost ‘em when their life is over!

🎃 And if you truly “need” something, purchase thrifted or vintage seasonal decor. I know my local thrift store has a full row of seasonal items year-round.

Everything you purchase has a footprint on our precious earth. Being thoughtful about our needs is one of the easiest ways to save money and help our collective home.

Well if you ask our almost 4yo, the ultimate decoration is brown fallen walnut leaf bouquets 🙂 we don’t really decorate much. When the seasons change we arrange the front Windowsill with a few seasonal elements (mini pumpkin from the garden,Twigs, rosehip etc. We keep a couple of vases with some flowers from the garden around the Living area at most times so those are seasonal and decorative. I think americans decorate way more that europeans, or is that just a wrong impression I got?
