Our small home’s living room makeover is three years in the making. As much as I love a good HGTV style flip, this wasn’t it.
I don’t say this to complain, but I often think the honest work of a renovation gets glossed over. What you can’t see in the before picture is the true state of our home. We ended up having to replace the drywall in the entire house, add in new insulation, replace the old (and dangerous) electrical and refinish the floors.
But what took us the longest was the finishing details like painting, putting up new baseboards and trim (the old stuff had been chewed by previous owner’s dog), and installing our wood stove. Those things all took physical and mental energy that I had not anticipated. (If you’ve never painted an entire house of bare drywall before, be prepared for an Olympic sport. My neck hurts just thinking about it.)
We also tried to DIY or purchase our furniture and accessories second-hand whenever possible. When we didn’t DIY or buy used, we sometimes had to save for months until we had enough to make a purchase. Remodeling a home is extremely expensive and we often sacrificed time for money.
But what we’ve created is worth all the literal blood, sweat and tears. We’re on our way to a completed house. And I am proud to call this little place home.
Love the art in between the sofa and the lamp. Where is it from?
Thanks Emily! It was a DIY. I painted the circles and my husband painted the body shape. K Baeren has some paintings similar to this. I couldn’t find prints on her website, but she may be able to do one for you. Here’s her site: http://kbaergen.com/send-nudes
Where is the ceiling fan from? Thanks! Love the small house!
It’s a Hunter fan. I believe I bought it on Amazon!
Absolutely stunning space – and message!
Thanks Kymberly!
It’s so lovely!! Would you mind sharing where you got your ceiling fan?

small but a adorable room. I like the colour combination of your floor, wall and door. This type of a house is very chill and good for a 2-4 household. I will share this one to my drywall services. Thanks you for inspiring. Keep it up!
It’s from nothing to something. Such a fantastic makeover. Looks luxurious to be honest. Great work!
