Austin: Part II (The Fun!)

Cathedral of JunkI’m that annoying girl who breaks up her travel blog posts. But you know what? I don’t care. Austin was so great. I couldn’t just post one big, long post. I had to do two.

Here’s a prime example: see that picture above? That’s some dude’s backyard. It’s fondly referred to as the “Cathedral of Junk” and it’s become a tourist attraction in Austin. (Beware: you have to make an appointment to see it.) The artist (it really is a work of art, ya’ll), Vince Hannemann began building the Cathedral in 1988. He estimates that it now contains over 60 tons of junk.

Museum of the weirdWe also visited the Museum of the Weird. We saw a sword swallower!

king kong

And I was attacked by King Kong. Austin really knew how to keep it weird.

It wasn’t all fun and games. Ok, it was totally all fun and games. But we did visit Austin’s capital building. It’s big, ya’ll. And gorgeous. I was ready to move in.

Have you ever been to Austin? What are your favorite things to do there? I can’t wait to go back!
