Yikes, y’all. One week to go with the One Room Challenge and I’m going to be honest: I don’t know if we are going to finish. We’ve still got quite a bit more to build and we’re relying on good weather– which doesn’t always happen around these parts.
This week we managed to buy and plant the plants.
We also ordered mulch and gravel which will be delivered tomorrow (Thursday). The cost of the gravel and the mulch was pretty frightening. I price checked every place in town, but together, it was still as much as my mortgage. I know it’s going to make a big difference and keep the house a lot cleaner, but yikes. It’s something that we were going to eventually buy anyway, so it’s not like the challenge is dictating this cost either. Can you tell I’m trying to justify it?
This week we also painted the porch and then almost immediately messed it up. Haha. We scraped and painted the porch and then George said, “I don’t know why you wanted to do that. I’m going to mess it up when I build the railings.” Face palm. And he’s out there right now working on the railings and I can tell it’s going to need to get painted again. Oh well.
It looked better for all of 12 hours.
Fingers crossed we finish this thing!
Be sure to check out the other guest participating in the One Room Challenge here. And the designers here.
I too was shocked by the cost of gravel! I wanted to do my entire drive way, but ended up just doing the fire pit portion I was working on. Because same. It was gonna cost more than my mortgage!
Yes! Our driveway is almost all dirt right now and we get a lot of rain, so it was necessary, but painful!
