2019 Goals

small house christmas tree

Happy holidays! I hope you all had a safe, fun and most importantly, relaxing holiday. I’ve had lots of time to think about the wonderful things I’ve been able to accomplish in the past year. It’s been a truly wonderful year. I’ve also had time to think about the goals and things I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. I want to do so much! But in some ways, I also want to do less.

In 2019, one of my goals is to consume less plastic. I’ve been having nightmares about microplastic in our water supply (not even kidding), so one of my main goals is going to be to reduce my single-use plastic use. I’ve already been researching the “Zero Waste” movement and I’ve been beginning to replace things when they run out with DIYed or more sustainable options.

I’ve also already seen that this is going to be a difficult task. I have begun to recognize that I use a lot of plastic and I don’t even realize it. (Probably like most people.) And I’ve already had a few snafus. I ordered some brushes to do the dishes and they arrived wrapped in plastic. D’oh! I also made a DIY face lotion when I ran out of mine and it made me break out. But these little set backs aren’t going to get me down. I’m going to keep trying and that’s the important thing.

I also have a lot of professional goals I want to accomplish. I want to hit 10K followers on my Instagram. (Shameless plug to follow me here.) I’d love to start a minimalism podcast. (I’d love a co-host though! Email me if you’re interested.) And I want to finish a minimalism course I’ve been working on for oh, say, A YEAR!

March 2019 will mark my second year of working for myself and I can honestly say it is one of the best things I’ve done. I don’t have the stability I once had, but making my own schedule has been very good for my mental health. I want to continue to grow my business in new and different ways and I’m excited for what the future may bring.

Thank you all for following my journey. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Be sure to tell me your goals in the comments!

Love and light,
Melanie

I want to do more self-care to improve my mental health. I am also my own boss (I am a writer), and BTW, I would totally listen to your podcast and take your course. I know that taking even an hour to attend to my own well-being will promote better professional habits!

Thank you so much for that comment, Rachel. I sometimes need the extra encouragement. Self-care and mental health are truly difficult. I hope in the upcoming year, you find out what works for you!

I’m trying to consume less plastic too and it is hard! I’m realizing consuming less plastic also means a lot less snacks, yikes! There are a few online sources for plastic free items that don’t ship them wrapped in plastic. I recommend Life Without Plastic, Earth Hero, and Plastic Free Shop. Good luck!

Thanks for those recommendations! I’ll check them out. I totally understand the snacks thing! I love snacks too. I’m realizing consuming less plastic means making a lot more food. I’m thinking for snacks I’ll make things like mixed nuts and put them in jars or beeswax wraps.
