Thank You! Now I want to give back!

rp_Melanie.jpg

Thank you to anyone and everyone who has purchased my ebook, “The Ultimate Guide to Living Full Time in an RV, Airstream or Motorhome.” I feel so #blessed.

If you’ve been waiting to order my ebook, today is the day! It’s Giving Tuesday and I will be giving all profits today to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe as they continue to fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline. As someone who lives in a tiny house, I know that my everyday actions have a direct impact on the environment. As a member of the Isleta Pueblo, I also know the plight of American Indian people.

Many homes on reservations do not not have access to clean water or basic sanitation. And contamination to water used by American Indian tribes is nothing new. In 2015, mining pollution contaminated water in the San Juan River used by the Navajo. The DAPL threatens the tribe’s only water supply. The DAPL has already destroyed Native sacred places and may destroy more sites. All profits today will be given directly to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. You can purchase my book or a lapel pin here. If you simply want to give to Standing Rock, visit http://standwithstandingrock.net/.

I appreciate each and every one of you.
love,
Melanie

8 Big Reasons to Live in a Small Home

8 BIG Reasons to Live in a Small Home

Most Americans live in houses that are too big. In 2014, the average size of a home built was 2,600 square feet. That’s too big. Period. We don’t need so much stuff and we don’t need a bigger place to house it all. There is magic in small spaces. Small spaces open you up to more opportunities and give you a place to breathe. Check out my favorite BIG reasons to live in a small home below.  Continue reading

I’ve still got some pins in the shop, so if you were on the fence, get ’em while they’re hot!

Today I’m collaborating with fellow tiny-houser, Leah Nixon to talk about tiny house kitchen design tips. We both love to cook and cooking in our tiny kitchens has been a fun challenge. Take it away, Leah!

Why We Chose To Live in an Airstream (instead of a tiny house)!

Why we chose to live in an Airstream instead of a tiny houseHave you ever heard the saying, “You can have things fast, cheap or easy, but you can’t have all three?” I’m not 100% sure that’s the exact saying, but that iteration would be the short version of why we chose to live in an Airstream instead of a tiny house. But lucky for you, I’m going to tell you the long version of the story like a grandma who has had too much wine. Continue reading

Lessons I’ve Learned From Living Tiny

Lessons I've learned from living tinyFor over 2 years my husband, my dog and I have lived tiny. We went from living in a beautiful (and big-to-me) 1,200 square foot loft to a 188 square foot Airstream Sovereign. I’ve learned so many lessons during that time. Some of those lessons were expected and some of those lessons were totally unforeseen. Some of the lessons have been easy and some of them have been hard. But more than anything I’m thankful that I’ve learned them. Living tiny has made me a better person. So today I’m going to share just a few of the lessons I’ve learned by living tiny. I’m sure there are so many more lessons in store. Continue reading

How Seth and Maggie are Preparing for Tiny House Living

How to prepare for tiny house living | asmalllife.comToday I’m excited to feature my new friends, Seth and Maggie. Seth and Maggie are currently preparing for tiny house living. One of the questions I often get asked is how we downsized. I’ve talked a bit about downsizing before, but it’s good to get the perspective of others who have done the same. Since we didn’t work with a contractor, I’m also really interested in the process of planning and building a tiny home. Take it away, Seth and Maggie!

The Small Life: Dre’s Free-Spirited Airstream

The Small Life: Dre's Free-spirited AirstreamHey ya’ll! Today I’m excited to share the Airstream of my friend, Dre. Dre is an incredibly talented artist whose work I have long admired. She lives and works out of her 1975 Airstream Sovereign! Take it away, Dre!

Please introduce yourself (name, occupation, current location, etc.)
Hi!  I’m Dre!  I’m an artist with a day job (the day job is visual merchandising).  I have been actively working towards being a full time artist for about 3 years.  I work with textiles; making quilts, tapestries, embellished re-purposed clothing, and other things!  I currently live in West Virginia.  I grew up in WV, and moved away to Savannah, GA for college when I was 18.  I was there for 4 years then I moved to Los Angeles where I lived for 5 years and I returned to WV about 2 and a half years ago.
