Little Projects

New doors and puppy snuggles

Sometimes it’s the little projects that are the most difficult to complete. You think, “Oh, that’ll just take a minute, I’ll do it later.” And then the little projects add up into a big honkin’ project. We’ve been trying to knock some little to-dos out lately, but our list doesn’t seem to get shorter. In fact, it seems to keep getting longer! That’s life, right? Anyway, I thought I’d update you on some little projects that we’ve recently accomplished.

Dresser After

When George was out of town on business, I painted our dresser black. I’ve had this dresser forever. It was in my first ever apartment! And before that, it lived in my neighbor’s garage. It’s been around the block. But with a little fresh paint and new knobs, I think it looks like a brand-new piece.

New Blinds!

We installed blinds! I know that may seem like a hum-drum thing, but when you’ve had trash bags as curtains for a year it seems like a huge accomplishment. I love the look of the wood and how it coordinates with the wood floor and accents in our home. Our house seems much brighter and cheerier now.

Side tables and lights for the bedroom

Side tables and lights for the bedroom

We built side tables and installed lights in our bedroom! We used some leftover barn wood to make the side tables and not to toot my own horn, but toot toot. I love how they look both modern and rustic. I also added some baskets underneath for extra storage.

Coffee table made from scraps!

Coffee table made from scraps!

George built a coffee table out of scraps we had around the house! I’m particularly proud of this project because I’d been on the hunt for the perfect table for months, but most were out of my price range. This gorgeous table cost about $10 because we just needed an extra metal piece for sturdiness. I think George needs to go into the coffee table business. What do you think?!

New rug, who dis?

New rug, who dis?

I also purchased a rug on major sale. It’s technically from the kid’s department, but shopping in the kid’s home department is one of my tricks. Sometimes their stuff is sturdier and/or less expensive. I think it adds a fun bit of whimsy to the room.

We also put doors on our bedroom and the guest bedroom. That was a huge pain in the butt and took much longer than I ever expected. I’m going to write a proper post about the process because it wasn’t easy.

New Siding coming soon!

New Siding coming soon!

And last, but certainly not least, we tore off our side porch and parts of our front porch in preparation for new siding! We thought we could rip off the vinyl and maybe save the wood underneath, but it’s too far gone and we’re exhausted. So, we hired it out. I’m a little bit sad that we have to put vinyl siding back on the house, but the new vinyl looks much better than the old.

Wow, now that I typed all that out, it seems like we’ve accomplished a lot more than I thought we did! If you want to follow these projects in real time, I’m much better at updating my Instagram. Follow me over there and tell me you found me from my blog, so I can follow you too!

If you’re attempting or accomplishing any home projects this summer, I’d love to hear about ’em in the comments!

Your house looks super cute and I love how minimal and well co-ordinated you’ve made everything. A beautiful home.

Thank you, Larissa! What a nice compliment! It’s definitely still a work in progress, but I’m trying!

Love all the updates! I think another thing that would make a big difference is running the white cords from the bedroom lamps down beside the white window frame so they blend in.

That’s an idea! I don’t know if you can tell in the photo, but the cord is covered in fabric, so I was thinking of leaving it exposed for a more industrial look. I can see how some people wouldn’t like that though.
