How to Change a Small Space (with a small budget!)

It’s the new year and I’m getting the itch to change up my space. But as usual, I don’t have a lot of extra cash lying around. So what’s a gal to do? Well, I’ll tell you what I’m going to do, I’m going to…

  1. Declutter
Often times I get the urge to completely remodel everything, but what I really need to do is declutter. Although I consider myself a minimalist, stuff still creeps into my life and decluttering does wonders for a space. Decluttering can remind you about the things you love that may be hiding and the things you don’t love anymore that may be taking up unnecessary space. Need help decluttering? I’ve got 40 fast ways to clear clutter right here.
  2. Deep clean
Decluttering is great but decluttering is not cleaning. Clearing out dust bunnies and any dirt or grime can give your space a new light– figuratively and literally. Short on time and cash? (#storyofmylife.) Purchase a Groupon for a local maid service. It’s not as expensive as you think.
  3. Rearrange
I’ve definitely rearranged furniture before only to say “WHY DIDN’T I HAVE THIS ARRANGEMENT MY ENTIRE LIFE?!” Rearranging is free, it’s exercise(!) and if you don’t like the new arrangement, move it back!
  4. Paint or wallpaper an accent wall
Paint is relatively inexpensive and painting can change up the entire feel of a room. It can warm a room up or relax a room down. Painting isn’t hard, but it can be taxing, so try just painting an accent wall. If you like it, you can always do the rest of the walls in the room. Or if you want to get really fancy, try wallpapering an accent wall! Wallpaper is trendy and there’s even such a thing as removable wallpaper now if you are a renter or just extremely indecisive– like me! (I am loving the removable wallpaper from Walls Need Love.)
  5. Complete that project you’ve been meaning to do
Out of all the tips, this one is the one that gives me the most satisfaction. Just like anyone else, there are projects that I’ve been putting off for days, weeks, months, and maybe even years. Eeek! But once I finish those long-forgotten projects I feel so much better and so much more accomplished. Maybe it’s as simple as fixing a loose door handle or filing away old tax stuff, but once it’s complete, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

What are your favorite ways cheap ways to change up your space? I want to hear about it in the comments!
